ABOUT

Lomati Mine is a gold mine located at Hhelehhele, an area in the northern Hhohho region of the Kingdom of Swaziland. It is the only gold mine operating in the kingdom, and it was commissioned in January 2015 and launched by His Majesty King Mswati III in February 2016. The Lomati mineral resources comprise of three deposits which have been categorised as the Wyldsdale, Lomati and Lufafa deposits. The gold mine is an open pit mining operation using heap leach processing. This process produces 12 per cent of the world’s gold output. The Lomati metallurgical test work program showed that the crushing, agglomeration and cyanide leach characteristics were environmentally sound and economically viable for our operation. The mine is managed by an experienced team which includes engineers and mining consultants with several decades of international experience in the industry. This management team works under the supervision and guidance of a Board of Directors

OUR VISION

To be the gold mining company of choice in the region, employing innovative mining systems which deliver superior yields in a safe and responsible manner.

OUR VALUES

We stand for Integrity, Unity, Hard work, Innovation, Accountability and Community Empowerment. In Integrity we ensure that in our conduct as individuals and as an organisation we hold ourselves to the highest ethical and moral standards. We practice respect, honesty and fairness. In Unity we work as one team towards attaining our vision. Through Hard work we firmly believe that we will be able achieve – and even exceed - our vision. As we employ new and advanced systems of mining, we believe that in our Innovation we will be able to increase our yield while offering the highest level of protection to the environment around us. We take our commitment to be Accountable to statutory bodies, our workers and the community around us very seriously.Community Empowerment is integral to our business planning and decision making. We recognise that our work in this area can only be truly meaningful if we improve the standard of living of the community and make a visible and quantifiable difference in the lives of residents - individually and collectively.

THE MINING PROCESS

The heap leaching process being employed at Lomati Mine is a commonly used process to extract gold from the ore. Generally, the ore is crushed into fine particles before being heaped and sprayed with a leaching solution which liquefies and separates the gold from the ore. Our process at Lomati Mine begins with trenches being dug and soil samples being taken at specific intervals within the trenches to test the quality of the ore along that channel. Once the laboratory has ascertained that the ore is of the required quality, the ore is then excavated from the ground and transported to the Feed Bin.

CRUSHING
From the Feed Bin the ore goes through a Jaw Crusher which breaks and reduces the ore. The crushed ore is then dropped onto a conveyor belt. The belt transports the crushed ore along the conveyer where cement is added to mix it with dry ore. The conveyor belt takes the crushed ore peppered with cement to a High Frequency Vibrating Screen. This screen is used to separate the oversize ore from the fines before the crushed ore proceeds to the Agglomerator.

AGGLOMERATION
The agglomerator is a rotating hollow drum which tumbles material and sprays strictly controlled amounts of water onto the spinning mixture of cements and crushed ore to create artificial rocks of ore fines. Agglomerating the ore fines ensures that the ore particles are more uniform and thus making it easier for the leaching solution to travel the channels between particles to help maximise recovery.

LEACHING
The agglomerated crushed ore is then transported to the Leach Pad. This pad has a base of plastic sheeting and the ore is heaped on top of it. Once the ore has been heaped to the required level, a sprinkler system is then laid along the top of the ore pile through which a solution of diluted cyanide is sprayed. The cyanide percolates down through the heap, leaching out the gold. This process may take several days for the solution to percolate through the ore. The gold which has been dissolved by the leaching process drains to the pregnant pond. The solution, from the pregnant pond is then pumped through a series of carbon columns which adsorb the gold from the pregnant’ solution onto the carbon. After percolating through the columns the now barren solution reports to the barren pond where it is returned to the leach pad for further leaching. The gold is now loaded onto the carbon and the lead carbon column is moved to the elution area where it can be stripped to remove the adsorbed gold

GOLD RECOVERY
The gold is now stripped from the carbon by circulating a strong caustic cyanide and alcohol solution through the column and through an electrowinning cell that plates the gold onto the cell cathodes. When all the gold has been stripped from the carbon and deposited on the cathodes the cathodes are removed and the gold washed into the bottom of the electrowinning cell where it is filtered and dried ready for final smelting into a gold bar.
